Why I do what I do.

"Mask making wasn't my first intention when setting up my business, but being a glasses wearer, I saw an opportunity I couldn't miss out on."

I have worn glasses for as long as I can remember. When I was in primary school I thought wearing glasses 'made you cool' a similar right of passage as wearing braces. However the older I become, the more of an inconvenience I feel they are to my lifestyle.

Contact lenses are always an option, and I'm not opposed to wearing them every now and then. Companies like Zenni and Zeelol have become my hunting ground for cheap, stylish glasses. If I have to wear them everyday, why not buy a few pairs to coordinate with my wardrobe.

Where masks come in to play

So it's late 2020, we have all been asked to start wearing masks in public. Doing your weekly food shop, popping out for your medication, or even on public transport. Winter is looming and those who wear glasses know all too well how simply walking in to your nice warm home can create a lovely dewy mist, making it impossible to see even a few centimetres in front of you.

I started playing around with different shaped masks. Ones that have pleats, ones that have darts, ones that tie at the back and of course, the classic elasticated ear loops. I tried using nose wires to see if that would help with the fogging issue. Nothing seemed to work. Eventually I gave up. I came to accept that I'd have to live with this problem. Hoping that it wouldn't get me into bother some day.

Getting Inspired

Feeling festive over the Christmas period, there I sat, fire roaring, hot chocolate in hand, ready to wrap all my gifts. As I was mid fold, I realised… origami. Wrapping presents can be a lot like origami, like making paper airplanes or those little cranes you get at restaurants. Why couldn't I apply the same method to my mask making? and that is how my masks were born. The shape may be slightly more unusual than those you can buy at high street stores, but they're damn good at keeping that annoying fog from ruining your day!!
